Solar Shack

A renewed identity for a sustainability-driven EPC brand

Founded in 2011, SolarShack has built its reputation on service quality, technical rigour, and long-term reliability — delivering renewable energy solutions for organisations operating at scale across Zimbabwe.

Over the years, SolarShack has partnered with institutions including Stanbic Bank, Croco Motors, the United Nations, UNICEF, World Vision and GOAL, supporting critical infrastructure through solar power and water systems designed to perform in demanding, real-world conditions.

As the renewable energy landscape matured, so too did SolarShack’s role within it. What began as an installation and maintenance provider had evolved into something more complex: a trusted delivery partner operating at the intersection of sustainability, engineering, and long-term infrastructure planning.

The identity, however, had not yet caught up.

Challenge

SolarShack’s existing brand identity reflected its origins, but no longer fully articulated the scale, ambition, or responsibility of the work it was undertaking.

The challenge was to:

  • Clarify SolarShack’s evolution into a sustainability-driven EPC partner
  • Move beyond a service-led perception toward long-term infrastructure thinking
  • Build an identity system capable of scaling across projects, partnerships, and future renewable solutions
  • Express sustainability with authority — without falling into generic “green” symbolism

This was not a question of reinvention, but of refinement and focus.

Strategy

We approached the project through a positioning-first lens. Ensuring the identity was anchored in how SolarShack operates today, and where it is deliberately heading next.

Positioning
We articulated SolarShack as a sustainability-driven EPC brand, partnering with leading global providers to deliver solar and water solutions designed to endure.

This reframing shifted the narrative from installation to stewardship. From short-term delivery to long-term impact.

Concept: Sol
At the centre of the identity sits Sol.

Derived from the Latin word for sun, Sol represents life, energy, and renewal. While rooted in solar power, it was intentionally designed as an open symbol — capable of extending across water, hydro, wind, and future renewable systems.

Sol is not decorative. It functions as a quiet signature: a mark of intent that appears across communications, installations, and products — reinforcing trust, clarity, and long-term thinking.

Visual Language
The visual system brings discipline and authority to SolarShack’s presence.

Natural, muted tones reference the environments its infrastructure serves. A considered typographic balance blends engineering precision with approachability, reflecting both technical competence and human responsibility.

Every element was designed to scale — across documentation, sites, equipment, and digital platforms — without noise or unnecessary complexity.

Multi-sensory Expression
The identity was extended beyond the visual into a distinct, proprietary sonic signature.
Designed to evoke the sense of a new day dawning, the soundscape introduces a subtle emotional layer — signalling progress, optimism, and sustainable momentum across digital and experiential touchpoints.

Outcome

The result is a composed, confident identity that aligns SolarShack’s external expression with the reality of its work.

Not louder. Clearer.
Not trend-driven. Enduring.

The new brand system provides SolarShack with a platform for growth — supporting deeper partnerships, more complex projects, and a broader sustainability mandate, while remaining grounded in service, reliability, and long-term impact.

At its core, the identity clarifies what has always guided the company’s work:
building infrastructure that lasts, and contributing meaningfully to a more resilient energy future.

SolarShack Zimbabwe

“Conceptually capturing aspects of our unique story, for an organisation that is 220 years old is no small task! At all times there was clear communication, and an ease in the exchange of ideas and concepts. This in turn enabled a sense of empowerment, and we ended up with a wonderful product at the end of an insightful and creative journey.”
